Emerging comedian Tumeliso Mulunjwana is set to make his live performance debut at the Kwantuthu Comedy Festival, scheduled for Thursday and Friday in Bulawayo.

For comedy enthusiasts, this comes as a welcome relief following the unexpected cancellation of the stand-up comedy night. Although details surrounding the cancellation remain unclear, the festival’s expansion—with eight schools participating this year compared to just two last year—indicates a vibrant and promising event.

In a statement, festival board secretary Gugulethu Masha expressed excitement about the upcoming performance.

“We are adding a stand-up comedy act to the Theatre Night programme, featuring newcomer Tumeliso Mulunjwana, who will be performing for the first time. The board is also thrilled to announce our latest partnership with Mrs Sinkwa. Through this collaboration, the festival will actively support the breast cancer awareness campaign spearheaded by Mrs Sinkwa,” said Masha.

She further encouraged the public to support the cause by purchasing Mrs Sinkwa bread. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to cancer patients and the Cancer Association of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo. The bread will also be available for tasting and purchase throughout the festival, contributing to this important campaign.

The festival’s line-up includes:

  • Day One (October 24, 2024): Theatre Day at Bulawayo Theatre, featuring performances from Dominican Convent High School, St Augustine’s College, Sobukhazi High School, and Jubilee Academy.
  • Day Two (October 25, 2024): High School Short Film Screenings at Bulawayo Theatre, with films from Dominican Convent High School, St Augustine’s College, Sobukhazi High School, St Columba’s High School, Girls College, King George VI Memorial School, St John’s High School, and Mandwandwe High School.

This year’s festival continues its focus on nurturing young talent, with schools playing a key role in the event.
