HWEDZA district in Mashonaland East province has received critical equipment to boost service delivery in line with the Government’s developmental aspirations.
The equipment, which includes 20 tricycles, a fire tender, tractor and drill rig, were commissioned at Hwedza Rural District Council’s office on Thursday afternoon.
The ceremony was presided over by senior Government officials, with Local Government and Public Works Minister Daniel Garwe being the guest of honour.
The gathering was also graced by Minister of Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs and Devolution Advocate Itai Ndudzo.

Speaking that the event, Hwedza district information officer Mr Takudzwa Rushizha said: “Tricycles are to facilitate councillors’ mobility, hence underscoring the district’s commitment to efficient service delivery and inclusivity, ensuring that no one and no place is left behind. The fire tender, commissioned by Honourable Advocate Itayi Ndudzo, is expected to significantly improve emergency response capabilities, from handling fire-related incidents and tow heavy vehicles whilst safeguarding against property loss and enhance Hwedza’s rural emergency service standards …”

In his address, Minister Garwe commended the local authority for aligning with President Mnangagwa’s “Call to Action” for local authorities.
He emphasised the importance of prioritising service delivery through the development of master plans, valuation rolls and digitisation efforts.
These achievements, he noted, are a testament to the collaborative efforts between the local authority, Government ministries, departments and agencies.

Emphasising Hwedza’s significant agro-economy, Minister Garwe called on the local authority to prioritise infrastructure development, including roads and market stalls equipped with ancillary services.
These efforts, he added, are crucial for promoting self-sufficiency, enhancing local economic development and achieving Vision 2030.
He also stressed the need for people-centred policies to facilitate the transition from urban settlement to town status.
He strongly urged residents and businesses to pay rates promptly to avoid legal action and delayed quality service provision by the authorities.
Minister Garwe also announced Government plans to provide councillors with duty-free vehicle imports, serviced stands, tertiary education benefits and ideological training at the Chitepo School of Ideology.
On his part, Minister Ndudzo praised Hwedza District Council for its progress, noting that devolution funds have been instrumental in driving tangible service delivery improvements in Mashonaland East province.
He reiterated the Second Republic’s commitment to inclusive development, adding that developments in Hwedza are part of broader growth initiatives across the province, driven by collaborative efforts between local authorities and Government agencies.
He urged the community to rally behind the local authority’s efforts to enhance service delivery whilst being collectively responsible for councils in achieving Vision 2030 through a people-centred and decentralised governance model.
The event marked a significant step forward in Hwedza’s development, reflecting the Government’s commitment to empowering local authorities and improving the quality of life for all citizens.
