NGA Chronicle in final at BF

Descent Dube, Sports Reporter
NGA Chronicle and Safeguard will square off in the final of the Bulawayo Amateur Football Association (Bafa) Townshend and Butcher at Barbourfields outside grounds on Saturday.

The finalists marched into the final after winning their semi-final encounters at the same venue two weeks ago. Nga Chronicle beat Unity Village while their opponents defeated Safeguard.

Tournament sponsor Peter Leondios said the initiative was started in 1957, the idea being to give back to the community through sports.

“When I took over this business (Townshend and Butcher) in 1986 I promised the then owner, Townshend, that I will keep the good work he has done. I never thought twice taking it further because the idea was fantastic so I had to carry on with it,” said Leondios.

He said being a native Greek and his passion for soccer, he had to do something that would contribute for the betterment of the football community.

Leondios, who is also sponsoring a Zimbabwe Republic Police (Bulawayo) soccer tournament said his objective is to enhance the playing experience of the players and aid them in developing their skills and discipline. All in all, the sponsorship is worth $4 000. — @DecoDecent2.
