WITH just eight games to conclude the Northern Region Division One Soccer League season, log leaders Ngezi Platinum are not taking any chances as they seek to clinch the championship race. They clash against relegation fighters DC Academy today at Baobab and coach Clifton Kadurira said they will not underestimate their opponents.
“Our game plan doesn’t change. Our approach is the same, we can’t underrate them. The teams at the basement are very dangerous. “They can do anything because they have nothing to lose. We will approach the game with a positive mind, like people who want to win and we are going to fight.
“My guys always knew that we needed to collect three points in our games, I have not had to put them under pressure and I will not put them under pressure now,” said Kadurira. Kadurira said they are happy with the return of striker Innocent Sokosi, who missed most of the matches in this last half of the season due to a hamstring injury.
“Innocent Sokosi is back. Last week he played and this will be his second game since his recovery. We are going in the game looking for three points,” Kadurira said. The Platinum Boys have lost just one game of the 26 matches played so far and with such as record, the title is theirs to lose considering also that the other teams in the top four – Gunners, Black Rhinos and ZRP FC – have been dropping points of late.
Gunners, who are second on the log table, are 17 points behind Ngezi, who have 61 points. After beating Ngezi two weeks ago, hopes were that Gunners would maintain the momentum to create some sort of competition in the championship race but they dropped four crucial points in their last two games.
