AMAZULU striker Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya is targeting a return to full fitness in 2026/27 after an injury night-mare derailed what was shaping up to be a great season with Usuthu.
The Warriors forward finished the 2025/26 campaign as AmaZulu’s top goalscorer with 8 goals in all competitions, despite featuring in 16 matches only. But the 23-year-old spent the second half of the season sidelined, undergoing rehabilitation after injuries forced him to miss several games and cost him national team call-ups.
Ngwenya’s season started like a dream — signed from FC Platinum in July 2025 after impressing at the COSAFA Cup that was held in South Africa.
He scored on debut against Orbit College and quickly climbed to second on the Premiership top scorers’ chart.
His best came when he grabbed a brace and an assist off the bench against TS Galaxy. Then the setbacks hit. An injury lay-off in late August was followed by more time out.
“It was a roller-coaster season full of ups and downs, good and bad moments. Injuries affected me, but I give praise to God for the goals and contributions I made to my club,” said Ngwenya. Ngwenya’s ability to bounce back physically and mentally will determine his chances of representing Zimbabwe on the international stage again.
The Warriors striker missed out on national team duty while injured, at a time when the team is rebuilding.
He is now focused on rehab and is eager to reclaim his spot for the Warriors. Under head coach Arthur Zwane, who’s set to rebuild AmaZulu next season, Ngwenya is expected to be one of the key players the club builds around once fit.
“I would also like to thank the coaching staff at my club led by head coach Arthur Zwane for everything. I also thank the club for the way it has treated me as I continue on my recovery path,” he added.
