FC HUNTERS midfielder Vusa Ngwenya believes it is high time they pick up points if they are to stay afloat.
The former Dynamos player has been slowly establishing his presence since joining Hunters on loan from Scottland.
He joined Scottland at the beginning of the season, switching from DeMbare.
He played a key role last year in DeMbare’s quest for survival from relegation, which they managed to achieve on the last day of the season.
Now, under coach Nesbert Yabo Saruchera, he is enjoying a new lease on life and a playing style to which he has greatly adjusted.
This past Saturday, they played to a 1–1 draw against Ngezi Platinum, but now they shift focus to the upcoming fixtures against AGAMA and Manica Diamonds.
“As a team, we are improving daily, and we are now working hard to get maximum points.
“Against Ngezi, we gave a good shift and applied ourselves correctly most of the time, but a lapse in concentration at a critical point led to us conceding, and we dropped two points.
“Now the objective is to work on the small details we are lagging behind on as a team, and the coaches are pushing that on us.
“So, it’s only a matter of time before we start to bag maximum points.”
Ngwenya believes their next opponents, Manica Diamonds and AGAMA, have struggled in the past, but now it is a different ball game.
“There are no easy fixtures. No matter how a team has been struggling, as long as they come to fulfil a match, they mean serious business.
“So, football is only played on the pitch; that means we have to apply ourselves correctly if we are to get maximum points in the upcoming matches.For us, it is also an opportunity to rise in the log standings, as we need the maximum points for our own good. Hence, we are going to fight with all we have in our arsenal.”
Hunters are currently 14th on the log, and they have only managed a single win this season. AGAMA remains the only club without a win so far.
