FORMER Dynamos goalkeeper Phillip Nhete is on trials at South African First Division side Golden Arrows. Nhete, who is currently playing for top Botswana side Gaborone United, left for South Africa earlier this week. The goalkeeper began training with the club yesterday and had also been invited by two other Division One teams. The player’s manager, George Deda, said the ultimate aim of the ‘keeper was to break into the Absa Premiership.
Golden Arrows are currently tied on pole position with Jomo Cosmos.
“Phillip left for South Africa on Tuesday upon receiving an invitation from Golden Arrows, Witbank and Polokwane City.
“I was talking to him this afternoon (yesterday) after finishing the first session. He said he was well received and is confident. It would be good to relaunch his career.
“At Dynamos he was overshadowed by other goalkeepers and last year I took him to Gaborone United, but upon the expiry of his contract I felt it was better to try South Africa. South Africa is the highest paying and marketed league in Africa.
“If you look at Conrad Whitby and Malawian Esau Kanyenda, I took them to Polokwane and they were promoted with the team into Absa Premiership,” said Deda.
