PASSADA outfit, Nice to Nice, finally got it right and won this year’s Chibuku Road to Fame provincial contest held last Saturday at Chinyausunzi Beerhall in Sakubva.
The Sakubva-based outfit outwitted nine other groups that took part in the finals and pocketed $1 000, while second-placed Tunes of Harmony and Shining Stars walked away with $500 and $300 respectively.
The group will represent Manicaland in the national finals to be held at Glamis Arena in Harare on September 24.
The tightly-contested show was dominated by sungura outfits from across the province.
Comparing to last year’s performance where they succumbed to an excruciating second place, losing to Mark Sounds, Nice to Nice presented a unique and polished performance particularly on the songs VaChihuri and Mazirudo.
They blended the instruments, vocals and choreography well.
Second-placed Tunes of Harmony pulled a surprise and shocked many after they put up a splendid performance.
Nice to Nice manager, Seymour Gijimani, said they were already focusing on the more prestigious national finals.
“It was a fairly easy contest. The band was composed. We really wanted to win it. We worked on last year’s mistakes and improved significantly.
The national finals will not be easy, but we will practice hard and make sure that we bring the trophy home. We have already started preparing for the competition,” he said.
Tunes of Harmony secretary, Mercylene Zarenyara, said they would work hard to win next year’s edition.
“We did our best. We were almost there. We are, however, grateful and hope to come out tops in next year’s provincial finals,” she said.
National Arts Council Manicaland provincial manger, Jonah Muchayi was impressed with the level of competition.
“It was an intriguing contest. All groups were so determined to win.
‘‘I would like to congratulate Nice to Nice for coming out tops. We believe they will make us proud just like what Redwing Mine did. We urge them not to relax, but start preparing for the national finals,” said Muchayi.
