NICKY GENIUS DECLARES HE ISN’T TIED TO A STABLE

Langalihle Mhiti

ZIMBABWEAN music producer Nicky Genius has declared his independence as a producer while outlining the nature of his artistic relationships.

The clarification follows growing speculation within the music industry, and on social media, regarding his association with various artists and bands.

Nicky Genius said he was not signed to any artist or record label in his capacity as a producer.

Instead, he described himself as an independent creative who works on a project-by-project basis.

“I am an independent producer. I am not signed to any artist or label as a producer,” he said.

“The productions I have done for different artists were purely professional collaborations.”

Nicky Genius, who has worked with several prominent Zimbabwean musicians over the years, addressed comparisons often drawn between his work with different artists.  He made reference to productions he has done for artists such as King 98 and Winky D, saying these collaborations should not be interpreted as contractual obligations.

“The work I did for King 98 is the same kind of professional work I have done for Winky D and others,” he said.

“It does not mean I belong to anyone.”

The producer also distanced himself from the Vigilance Band, a group often closely associated with Winky D.

In recent months, fans and commentators had speculated that Nicky Genius was formally part of the band or signed under its structure.

He firmly dismissed these claims.

“I am not signed to Vigilance,” he said.

“People need to understand that working together does not always mean being signed.”

While clarifying his production status, Nicky Genius revealed that he does have an exclusive artistic affiliation with GG Music, but in a different capacity.

According to him, this relationship is tied to his work as an artist rather than as a producer.

“I am signed to GG Music as an artist, not as a producer,” he said.

“Those are two different roles, and people should not mix them up.

“I do not support any political party, I work with people based on mutual respect and professionalism, not politics.”

He added that his career decisions are driven by personal growth and creative freedom rather than public pressure or expectations from fans.

“I do what I believe is best for me,” he said.

“I cannot live my life trying to please everyone.”

Nicky Genius’ statement has sparked widespread discussion online, with many fans praising him for addressing the rumours head-on.

Others see his remarks as a reflection of a broader challenge within the local music industry, where collaborations are often misinterpreted as loyalty or allegiance. Industry observers noted that his declaration highlights the evolving nature of music production in Zimbabwe, where many producers are choosing independence to maintain creative control and flexibility.

By clearly defining his boundaries, Nicky Genius joined a growing number of creatives who are pushing back against rigid industry labels. Nicky Genius appeared unfazed by criticism or speculation, maintaining a confident outlook on his future.

“Everyone has their own journey,” he said. “Mine is about growth, independence and doing meaningful work.”
