NIEEB seeks office space for regional managers

NIEEB is setting regional offices in all provinces as part of efforts to promote broad-based economic empowerment in the country.

In an interview, NIEEB board chairperson Mr David Chapfika said the regional managers would be employed with effect from next month.

“We have concluded the interviews for regional managers and sometime in the next two weeks we will introduce them to the media. At the moment, we are busy working province by province with provincial governors to try and identify office space for the managers,” he said.

He said NIEEB was committed to attending to economic empowerment projects that benefit the locals as shown by the launch of community share ownership schemes.

“The Community Share Ownership Scheme is a true testimony that NIEEB is committed to empowering the locals,” said Mr Chapfika.

He said the NIEEB was also working on spearheading the formation of companies wholly owned by locals before the end of the year.

“We are also working to spearhead the 100 percent indigenisation institutions and before the end of the year we will embark on awareness campaigns of the programme. We will reach out to people in universities and other tertiary institutions as well as churches, among other organisations,” he said.

The board will engage people in the diaspora and local professionals to set up fully indigenised projects in the 14 economic sector specific areas set aside for indigenous people by Government identified last year.

The sectors include mining, tourism, trade, manufacturing and agriculture.

Mr Chapfika said the 100 percent indigenisation institutions project was not an event but a process that would not be realised overnight.

He said the setting up of wholly indigenised projects would be determined by the availability of working capital to fund the businesses.
