A 21-YEAR-OLD man has been slammed with an effective 40 year prison term after a brutal double rape of his elderly neighbour.

The Bulawayo Regional Magistrates’ Court convicted Gift Ncube on two counts of rape and sentenced him to 20 years on each count.

In the early hours of 15 February 2026 at around 3AM, Ncube broke into the home of his 81 year old neighbour in Hope Fountain. He violently overpowered the victim, strangling her and threatening to kill her before forcing her to undress and raping her in the sitting room.

He then dragged her to the bedroom and raped her again. After the attacks, the offender fell asleep naked in the victim’s bed. The traumatised survivor managed to escape and alert neighbours, who carried out a citizen’s arrest after finding the offender asleep. A broken window confirmed unlawful entry.

The court noted that breaking into the sanctuary of a senior citizen and subjecting them to such trauma is a violation of the highest order. The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) condemned the crime and urged communities to unite in protecting the elderly.
