Nine-year-old raped, infected with hiv

Two Hurungwe men were last week arraigned before a Karoi magistrate for allegedly raping and infecting a nine-year-old girl with HIV. The offence was allegedly committed between July 2013 and December 24 2014. Knowledge Mutemachani (33) of Ngoshi Village and Japari Mpinda (34) of Chikura Village, who is stepfather to the minor, were both remanded in custody to January 13 this year when they appeared before magistrate Mr Ngoni Nduna last Tuesday.

The State alleges that Mutemachani, a close friend of Mpinda, allegedly raped the minor each time he visited the Mpinda homestead.

It is alleged Mutemachani raped the girl in her bedroom on several occasions during the period between 2013 and December 24. Mpinda is believed to have also raped the girl between July 2013 and December 24 last year.

The matter only came to light on December 24 last year after the minor was caught stealing from a groceries shop in the area. The minor implicated Mpinda for having taken the missing goods.

Further investigations revealed that the minor had been raped by the duo. Mpinda, Mutemachani and the girl tested HIV-positive.
