NKAYI United, the rural dark horses shocking the big boys of Division One, gallop into Plumtree today for a bruising date with Mainline at Dingumuzi Stadium.
Once dismissed as mere pushovers, the Nkayi lads have turned the script upside down. Backed by Kingdom Blue cash and drilled by Daniel Ndlovu, United sit on the summit with 41 points, sending shockwaves through a league that was supposed to be a two-horse race between fallen PSL giants Hwange and Bulawayo Chiefs.
But the Twitter Kings — Bulawayo Chiefs — are breathing down Nkayi’s necks. With just a point separating the two, Chiefs are banking on their seasoned warriors like skipper Kelvin Madzongwe and Malvin Mkolo to keep the pressure on as they storm into Hwange’s Cinderella Ground for a tricky tie against Blackrock.
“We will keep fighting. The league is still on and we cannot underestimate any side. We hope to pick up points away from home,” vowed Chiefs coach John Nyikadzino.
Talen Vision, now powered by the streetwise feet of ex-Warriors skipper Danny “Deco” Phiri, lock horns with power generators Megawatt at Chakona.
Elsewhere, Hwange tackle army side Imbizo at Llewellin, Zebra Revolution duel Bosso 90 at White City B Arena, and Victoria Falls City Herentals square up against newboys Eagle Life at Chinotimba.
Casymn battle Nust at Turk Mine while Jordan Sinnot slug it out with Bulawayo Warriors at Filabusi’s Mthwakazi Ground. The clash between Ajax Hotspurs Movers and Bulawayo City has been canned.
All eyes, though, will be on Plumtree. Can Nkayi’s fairy tale run continue in the border town, or will Mainline cut the dark horses down to size?
