Nkayi man beaten to death with log

A 49-year-old man from Mtshatshane area under Chief Tshugulu in Nkayi District died on Friday after being assaulted with a log several times on the head.

In a statement yesterday, the Zimbabwe Republic Police said Nkosana Dlamini of Sigodini Village died at around 1AM following an assault by Thandolwenkosi Moyo (21).

Dlamini had left Cross Zenka Business Center situated at the intersection with Bulawayo-Nkayi Road intending to go to his homestead when Moyo pounced and assaulted him with a log several times.

Police said Dlamini appeared to have lost direction to his home and entered Simelinkosi Moyo’s homestead where he shouted for help and asked for directions.

However, when Simelinkosi got out, she saw Thandowenkosi putting on a torch on his head striking Dlamini with a log on the head and he died on the spot.

The accused was later found packing his clothes in a satchel bag intending to flee after realising that Dlamini was dead.

When confronted by Simelinkosi if he noticed that he had killed Dlamini, he acknowledged the incident and the matter was reported to the village head, Mr Success Ngwenya.

A report was made at Nkayi Police Station and officers attended the scene. Dlamini’s body was taken to Nkayi District Hospital where he was certified dead.

The accused is still at large and police have said investigations are in progress.
