Mr Tendai Mahwe who remanded him in custody to July 4 this year. The complainant in the matter is Martha Nyahundi.
The State alleges that on June 18 this year at around 5pm, Manhire drove to corner First Street and Robert Mugabe Way where Nyahundi deals in foreign currency. Manhire is alleged to have called Nyahundi and appeared to know her but she did not recognise him.
Manhire told the forex dealer that he wanted R30 000 in exchange for US dollars and she told him that she was able to supply him with the said amount.
He told her to get into his car for the transaction and she complied.
Manhire told the woman that he was comfortable dealing while driving around town since he was afraid of getting arrested.
After handing him the money, it is alleged, Nyahundi asked for the equivalent US dollars and Manhire told her that he wanted to park the car first before giving her the money.
The State says instead of parking Manhire drove to Marlborough and when they were in the Good Hope area, Nyahundi became suspicious and told him to cancel the transaction and give her back her money.
It is alleged that he refused and continued driving and Nyahundi grabbed his neck and he handed back the cash before opening the front passenger door while the vehicle was moving and ordering her to jump out.
Nyahundi grabbed the steering wheel and the vehicle veered off the road and bumped into a ditch.
She started to wrestle him and people who were passing by rescued her after she had narrated her ordeal.
Manhire was taken to a police station where he was subsequently arrested.
