accolades.
Dynamos striker Roderick Mutuma is a definite winner of the Golden Boot award after grabbing 14 goals in the Premiership.
But the Soccer Star and Coach of the Year winners will have to be decided by a panel of experts.
By winning the Premiership title, Calisto Pasuwa will be a first choice for some given his impressive run since taking over from Lloyd Mutasa.
It was actually Pasuwa’s FIRST reign as a head coach, having been an assistant to Mutasa in the previous three seasons and also to Moses Chunga for the last half of the 2010 season while at CAPS United.
Pasuwa took charge for just 11 games and managed nine wins, a draw and one defeat.
Pasuwa has the honour of being the title-winning coach who ended Dynamos’ run of three seasons as runners-up.
He might even clinch a league and cup double at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday when Dynamos engage Motor Action in a Mbada Diamonds Cup final.
But there is one coach who will not have any silverware this season but had significant contributions in the 2011 season.
MOSES CHUNGA
Chunga had two jobs in the 2011 season.
He started at CAPS United where he was in charge for the first 13 games of the campaign -at one stage taking them top of the standings.
The CAPS United ship then hit turbulent waters midway through the first half of the season and Makepekepe were to slip off the top.
When he decided to quit the Green Machine, they had collected 21 points from a possible 39 after winning six, drawing three and losing four.
His CAPS United scored 27 goals and let in 16.
The significance of his contribution at CAPS United is that when he left them, they were just five points behind then joint-leaders Motor Action and FC Platinum.
At the end of the season CAPS United were 15 points off the pace -they fell a further 10 points behind the leaders in the games after Chunga’s departure.
He later moved to Gunners who were second from bottom at the time he rejoined the 2009 champions.
As he moved in, Gunners lost 14 senior players during the mid-season transfer window and these included Ashley Rambanapasi, David Sengu, Ronald Sengu, Nathan
Ziwini, Eddie Mashiri, Leonard Tsipa and Elvis Meleka.
Chunga was then left with a squad full of rookies and he led them for 16 games in which he won 10, drew two and lost four. In that spell, Gunners scored 27 goals and conceded 17.
Chunga guided Gunners from 15th after 14 matches to FIFTH at the end of the season.
Gunners were 17 points behind FC Platinum when Chunga moved in and at the close of the campaign, the gap had been reduced to 14.
This means Gunners had a better record than FC Platinum for the period Chunga was in charge at the modest Harare club as they collected 32 points between Week 15 and Week 30 while Rahman Gumbo’s charges garnered 29.
Only Dynamos have a better record as they collected 36 points from those 16 matches -Lloyd Mutasa had five games and Calisto Pasuwa 11.
***His teams scored 54 goals in 29 matches. The best strikeforce in the league had 44 goals in 30 games (FC Platinum and CAPS United).
***In the 29 matches where Chunga was on the bench for either CAPS United or Gunners, a total of 87 goals were scored.
