VILLAGERS in Goromonzi District feel abandoned by ZESA after going for more than a year without electricity at Kowoyo Clinic.
Some villagers told H-Metro that nothing has been done despite numerous protests.
“We do not know what the actual problem is because it has been over a year without electricity.
“Yes, the transformer got burnt but going for more than a year without a solution is too much,” said Annamore Chanakira.
Another villager said:
“How do they expect things like vaccines, and other medicines, which require refrigeration, to be kept at the clinic when there is no electricity?”
Councillor Ananias Chigwande also expressed his concern over the issue.
“ZESA people once came with a transformer, but it had a fault.
“I tried to work on the issue but my efforts were fruitless.
“I engaged the Member of Parliament and Headman Dzvete for interventions, but the clinic still has no power.
“The clinic uses borehole water, which requires power for pumping, and that has now also led to a shortage of water,” he said.
A nurse at the clinic, Sister Mudyara, said they, at one time, started a fundraising process to buy a transformer.
“I heard that a stakeholder volunteered to purchase the transformer for us and we are still waiting,” she said.
