THE sacking of former Vice-President Joice Mujuru and her allies does not amount to a split in Zanu-PF, Acting President Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa has said. Addressing thousands of Zanu-PF supporters at Mucheke Stadium in Masvingo yesterday, Cde Mnangagwa said no one should tow the wrong party line as they risk expulsion.
He described Mujuru and her putschists as puppies that bark at an elephant.
The acting President dismissed their plans to hold onto the revolutionary party’s name saying there will never be two Zanu-PF parties.
This comes in the wake of media reports suggesting that Mujuru and her cabal are working on forming a splinter political party, Zanu People First.
Mujuru and her cabal comprising Rugare Gumbo, Didymus Mutasa and Temba Mliswa were dismissed from the party on allegations of bringing the party into disrepute and fanning factionalism.
Mujuru was accused of attempting to topple a democratically elected President, corruption, sponsoring factionalism and establishing parallel government structures.
At a rally after the declaration of the site where he blew a locomotive in the early 1960’s as a national monument, Cde Mnangagwa said those who follow the correct party line had nothing to fear while those who act contrary will definitely be expelled.
“There are falsehoods of a split in Zanu-PF, there is no split in our revolutionary party. We do not split in Zanu-PF but we expel those who would have violated the constitution. We’ve a constitution to follow,” said Cde Mnangagwa.
“Teurai, Didymus, Rugare Gumbo and Mliswa were expelled from the party because of their crime. It’s not true that Mutasa was fired at Congress in December, he was actually rejected by his own people in Headlands, Manicaland when provinces chose members into the central committee before congress.”
He said Mujuru chose not to attend the Congress because her crimes had been exposed by the First Lady Cde Grace Mugabe during her meet the people tour while Mutasa was in South Africa for medical check-ups.
He hailed the First Lady for exposing Mujuru’s uncivilised behaviour and disrespect of the party’s leadership saying she saved the situation as Zanu-PF could have been destroyed by people fanning factionalism.
“Nokuti vanga vavakuziva mhosva dzavo vamwe havana kuuya kuCongress (Because they knew their crimes, they did not attend Congress). We want to thank Dr Stop It, Cde Stop it – the First Lady who unravelled many unwholesome things done by Ronaida (Mujuru),” said Cde Mnangagwa.
Present at the rally were ministers Cdes Shuvai Mahofa, Walter Mzembi, and Prisca Mupfumira as well as Senate President Cde Edna Madzongwe, Chiefs Council President Chief Fortune Charumbira; Zanu-PF Chief whip Cde Jorum Gumbo and Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Rungano Zvobgo.
