Matabeleland from August 1 to September 21, 2012.
The Edzai Isu Theatre Arts Project and Zvido Zvevanhu Arts Ensemble production which is written, directed and produced by Tafadzwa Muzondo, will be performed at the Youth Cultural Arts Festival 2012, Chimanimani Arts Festival 2012 and Intwasa Arts Festival in Masvingo (August 2-4), Chimanimani (August 10-11 ) and Bulawayo (September 18-22), respectively.
“We are happy to have this play reaching out to more theatre fans around this country after our regional exploits and we are grateful to the US Embassy in Harare for making this tour possible as we have been craving to reach out with this creative, innovative and educative play which was nominated among the three top plays in Zimbabwe at the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe-organised Nama held at 7 Arts Theatre in February this year,” said the multi-talented award-winning Muzondo.
“The role of youth in community peace building, which is the crux of the play, is a national objective hence we have to take this entertaining and educating production to the community.
“The play is born out of a collaborative effort by two community theatre groups to take theatre to the community and in this regard the play will be performed for grassroots audiences in venues around the three festivals.”
The play, which is set at a growth point, fuses drama, dance and music, and is expected to resonate with entertainment- and peace-loving Zimbabweans in the targeted areas. Audiences will have a unique opportunity to enjoy a theatrical massage with a peace message.
The play, which is choreographed by community theatre veteran and award-winning dancer Gibson Sarari — who is also the main actor — features the award-winning duo of Everson Ndlovu and Muzondo, internationally travelled actors-cum-dancers Livius Chitsungo, Charles Biniweri and Gabriel Akupa as well as experienced dancers-cum-actresses Charlotte Munyanyi and Beauty Majira.
