A NATIONAL Oil Infrastructure Company of Zimbabwe (NOIC) employee has been arrested for fraud.

Joseph Mushayavanhu, 50, was arrested after a report from the NOIC risk and loss control office indicated he was intentionally recording incorrect fuel receipts at the company’s office Msasa.

Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the arrest.

“Police arrested an employee for fraud,” said Insp Chakanza.

“Circumstances are that the accused person was on night duty from January 2 to January 8, 2025, as a tank operator.

“His duties, among others, were to receive and dispatch fuel to customers in bulk.

“On January 6, 2025, at around 0700 hours, the accused person was reported to have deliberately recorded incorrect ethanol receipts.

“The receipts were, therefore, understated by 8 773 litres valued at US$9650,30.

“On January 7, 2025 at around 0700hours, the accused person went on to alter what he had recorded on January 6, 2025, and understated the opening stock balance by 30 000 litres valued at US$ 33 000.

“He altered the figure from 1 889 928 to 1 859 928.

“On January 9, 2025, the accused altered the ethanol opening balance of January 8, 2025, and understated it by 10 000 litres valued at US$11 000.

“He altered the opening balance figure from 2 278 760 to 2 268 760 litres.

“The offence was discovered by the Loss Control Officer, leading to his arrest,” said Insp Chakanza.
