A 22-YEAR-OLD Victoria Falls man has been remanded in custody after he allegedly launched a gruesome assault that ended with him biting off part of another man’s nose in a fit of rage.

Kelvin Ndebele of Lukunguni Village 1, under Chief Shana in Jambezi, appeared before Victoria Falls Magistrate Linda Dzvene on Friday, facing assault charges after he allegedly attacked Nkosiyenzile Gumede (22) using stones and teeth.

Prosecutor Portia Moyo told the court that the incident happened on 3 July 2025 at Magrett Moyo’s homestead. Ndebele stormed the property around 7AM and accused Gumede of gossiping about him.

“Ndebele began assaulting Gumede by hurling stones at him using a catapult, striking him multiple times across the body,” said Mrs Moyo. “When the complainant tried to restrain him, the accused retaliated by biting him once on the nose, severing part of it.”

The matter was swiftly reported to police and Ndebele was arrested. Gumede was rushed to hospital and a medical report confirming serious injury was submitted to the court.

“The accused acted unlawfully and with intent to cause bodily harm or at the very least, realised the real risk of such harm,” added the prosecutor.

Magistrate Dzvene remanded Ndebele in custody pending sentencing, set for today. The bizarre attack has sent shockwaves through the Lukunguni community, with residents describing it as a scene straight out of a horror movie.
