Notorious bouncers remanded in custody again

NOTORIOUS bouncers, Gideon Sanyangore and Blessing Kumunda, were again remanded in custody to today after their case was postponed.

Magistrate Stanford Mambanje stated that he was overwhelmed with matters and could not deliver the bail ruling yesterday.

“As you can see, I have been working since morning and I did not even go for lunch.

“I know I had promised to deliver the ruling today, but due to pressure, I could not go through the matter, hence let’s defer the ruling to tomorrow (today),” said the magistrate.

Sanyangore and Kumunda briefly appeared before magistrate Mambanje on December 30 facing attempted murder charges.

The duo spent their New Year in remand prison and again appeared in court on January 3 where they applied for bail awaiting trial.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Cephas Mutswebi, opposed bail, saying they would interfere with investigations.

He also said the duo know the complainants and if they are released on bail, they are likely to intimidate them.

However, the two’s defence lawyer argued that the investigating officer had half-backed information and was not aware how the fight started.

He claimed that Sanyangore was being attacked by the complainants and that is when Kumunda pushed them in a bid to rescue Sanyangore.

Meanwhile, Highfield police have received more complaints against Sanyangore and Kumunda.

The two were initially detained for attempted murder and will now also answer to assault and public violence charges.

National police national spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed that numerous reports had been filed.

“We can confirm that police in Highfield are investigating cases of assault after complaints were filed against Gideon Sanyangore and Blessing Kumunda.

“The complainants allege that they were assaulted by these bouncers,” said Assistant Commissioner Nyathi.

George Manokore appeared for the State.
