“Business has been very low in the first quarter. We have been raking in between US$6 million and US$7 million against a monthly target of US$10 million a month which is not enough to meet our expenses,” he said.
Mr Masikati said the company looked forward to improvement in business as industry was recovering from an economic downturn.
“Workers should bear with us in this difficult time and we appeal to them to report for duty,” he said.
NRZ workers embarked on a nationwide strike in September last year pressing for payment of their outstanding salaries. The employees were also protesting against low salaries as the lowest paid employee at the parastatal earns US$125 per month.
The workers’ union has described the amount as a mockery in light of the basic monthly needs. — New Ziana.
