PUBLIC, Labour and Social Welfare Minister, Paul Mavima, has called on the National Social Security Authority (NSSA) to develop and implement an informal sector scheme framework to cover a significant proportion of Zimbabwe’s economy.
Minister Mavima urged the authority to increase resources and funds for the scheme’s development and engage with stakeholders for technical support from experts.
NSSA will be piloting the scheme by the end of the year.
The Minister said NSSA should review and update its governance policies and procedures to ensure they are fit for purpose in an evolving environment.
He said NSSA should invest its resources towards attaining the national vision, especially in sectors such as agriculture, housing, real estate and renewable energy.
“There is an urgent need to review and update all NSSA governance policies and procedures so as to render them fit for purpose in an evolving environment.
“Given the dynamic environment we operate in, it is important to further look at the statutes governing the authority to ensure that they are in line with the needs of the people we serve.
“More importantly, NSSA should continue to take a national developmentalist approach to investment.
“While considering prudence in all investments, there is a need to use available resources and assets to contribute towards the attainment of the national vision by contributing significantly in various sectors such as agriculture, housing, general real estate, and renewable energy.”
