THE National University of Science and Technology (Nust) has dispelled rumours that it is planning to increase fees for its students by 75 percent.Panic gripped scores of Nust students and parents after a message on the purported fees hike went viral on the social media yesterday.

“The National University of Science and Technology has applied to the government for a fees increase for its students. The university hopes to increase the fees from the current $540 to $720 for conventional students and $850 for parallel students,” read the message.

Nust’s director of information and public relations, Felix Moyo dismissed the rumour, saying the institution had not met over fees increment.

“I’ve also seen the message and it’s a lie. Fees increment is determined by the government and no Nust board has even talked about it,” he said.

The rumour had generated anxiety among students who felt the university was being insensitive to their plight.
