THE National University of Science and Technology (Nust) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Total Zimbabwe and Total South Africa.Under the agreement Nust will work with the two companies for the benefit of all parties.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Nust Vice-Chancellor Professor Lindela Ndlovu said the MoU was mutually beneficial and would assist the students, staff and the university’s profile.
“It is intended in the MoU that Total Zimbabwe will take Nust students for industrial attachment with a possible offer of employment after the attachment period.
“It is also the MoU’s objective for Total to participate at Nust’s open days and other activities. The university will also get open invitations to benefit from programmes, seminars and training offered by Total South Africa,” said Prof Ndlovu.
He praised Total for creating a partnership with the university and said it would assist boost the students’ attendance to regional and international conferences and seminars.
“While our attendance at regional and international conferences and seminars has not ground to a halt, it has certainly slowed down due to funding inconsistencies. Our partnership with Total South Africa breathes new lease of life to that area of our academic activity,” said Prof Ndlovu.
“Now that the MoU is signed there must be some positive difference to both Nust and Total. The agreement should not just gather dust but must be seen to function and deliver.”
Total Zimbabwe managing director Mr Gordon Douglas Craig said the MoU was part of the company’s social responsibility to uplift the students’ quality of education.
“The MoU is meant to assist Nust students in their careers.
The partnership will offer skills training as well as expose students to the international world,” said Mr Craig.
