IT was back to school for student teachers from Nyadire Teachers College.

But, there are concerns about a part of the fees, which has to be paid in foreign currency only. The fees are pegged at US$431, or equivalent, in local currency.

However, US$235 has to be strictly paid in foreign currency.

Some student teachers expressed displeasure over this arrangement.

“We were surprised to hear that we are now supposed to pay fees in foreign currency yet our parents are paid in local currency.

“I do not know what was wrong with the fees we were paying.

“I would have preferred it if the fee hike wasn’t in foreign currency,” said a student, who preferred anonymity.

However, some Harare-based students appeared happy to return to school after the holidays.

“This is my first year at the college, and I enjoy every moment.

“I am very excited to be going back to school.

“I am also pleased that the institution provided us with transport, which is safer and less expensive,” said one student, who only identified herself as Shantel.
