Nyaminyami FM, a Zimpapers radio station, has been honoured as the best media house during the just-ended Chinhoyi Agricultural Show.
This year’s showcase, which opened its doors to the public on Friday last week, was also described by show organisers as a huge success.
Speaking after receiving the award, Nyaminyami FM station manager Mr Davies Mugadza expressed his delight, saying the award showed that the station was growing.
He said the radio station had also become popular in neighbouring Zambia, attracting a sizeable audience despite other local stations operating in the area.
“We are very happy with the award, especially that we are just one year into broadcasting,” said Mr Mugadza.
“We are thankful to farmers and fishermen around Kariba and Hurungwe for supporting us.
“Our aim is to take over Mashonaland West province and also to increase our listenership in neighbouring Zambia where we have managed to get a share of the listenership.”
Meanwhile, this year’s show, which was held under the theme “Trade Surplus Through Agriculture” recorded an increase of 8,8 percent participation, with 91 companies and farmers exhibiting compared to 80 last year.
The show also attracted a high number of showgoers who visited exhibition stands to fully understand various issues regarding the agriculture sector such as the promotion of sustainable agri-business in Zimbabwe.
According to the show general manager, Mr Brian Vengai, the society had plans to engage large companies such as banks and agri-seed companies for shows at districts level.
He also paid tribute to the show media partners, Nyaminyami FM and Star FM, for promoting the event.
