TODAY marks exactly 34 years since the country’s worst ever road accident – the Nyanga Bus Disaster – which killed 89 young learners and teachers on the spot.

The accident occured in the slopes of meandering Nyanga-Ruwangwe Road on August 3, 1991.

The learners and their teachers were travelling to the Roman Catholic Regina Coeli School following a school sports outing at the St Killian’s Mission school.

Many could have on this day been alive, in their late 40s as children on the bus’ ages were aged about 15 years.

Their names are engraved in the local church and the dark spot remains a sad and constant reminder of the fateful day.
