Nyasha Mushekwi involved in Asiagate

However, it has since emerged that in 2009 Mushekwi was part of the team that went to Thailand for a couple of games, where then Zifa programmes officer Jonathan Musavengana allegedly told them to lose by a one-nil margin. They were told that if that happens, they would each get between $1 000 and $5 000 as players.
It was Musavengana who personally called Mushekwi and told him that the trip was part of their package for winning the Cosafa Cup but was given strict instructions not to tell anyone about it.

They, however, lost that match by 3-0 before leaving for Malaysia where they played against a club side and lost 3-0 again. Mushekwi told the investigating committee that they were told that the match was  not “online” and as such were only given  $500.
From Malaysia, the team flew to Syria for another match there and Musavengana and a Thomson Matenda were allegedly   giving instructions from the bench.   At one time Zimbabwe were down 3-0 but instructions kept on coming from the  bench until eventually they lost by a  massive 6-0 score and after that they were handsomely paid.

Zifa vice president Ndumiso Gumede also confirmed that indeed Mushekwi did participate and is named in their Asiagate report.
Gumede, board members Benedict Moyo (competitions) and Elliot Kasu (finance) formed the three-member investigating committee that has culminated in the suspension from all national team duties      of 98 players as well as other Zifa board members.

A Zifa Ethics Committee, headed by retired judge, Justice Ebrahim has since been appointed and is expected to present its verdict before the end of this month.
