POLICE public relations officers have been challenged to implement policing initiatives and continue partnering with the community in fighting crime.
National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said development of human resource skills, especially those of public relations officers, is key for the success of any organisation, including the Zimbabwe Republic Police.
“It is a fact that we are policing in a fluid and ever changing environment,” said Ass Comm Nyathi.
“Therefore, public relations officers must continuously refine their skills in order to enhance interaction and mutual understanding with the public.
“May I challenge public relations officers to religiously go back to stations and implement the resolutions and policing initiatives discussed at this important workshop.
“The rich array of subjects which include management of missing persons, management of complaints against police, image and capacity building, conflict management, conflict transformation, skills and media relations, should add impetus to the ZRP resolve to fight the malady of crime in all its forms in the country.”
He added:
“On the other hand, may I heartily express the ZRP’s appreciation for the immense support given by Envision Zimbabwe Women Trust for this workshop to be successful.
“The involvement of the corporate world, civic organisations and other stakeholders is really commendable.
“May I implore public relations officers to conduct relevant crime and traffic awareness campaigns with a view to addressing pertinent policing issues to eliminate the fear of crime from the public.”
More than 50 officers, drawn from police stations in Harare, attended the workshop.
