THE biggest traditional dance fiesta in the country reaches its climax tomorrow when the Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival finals are held in Masvingo.

Superstar Jah Prayzah, dancehall stars — Killer T and Tocky Vibes — have been roped in to perform during the after party.

Ten groups, drawn from all the country’s provinces, will battle it out for the grand prize, which has been pegged at US$15 000.

The runners-up will walk away with US$10 000 and the group, which finishes in third place, will get US$7 500.

The annual competition is held through a partnership between Delta Corporation, through its popular brand, Chibuku, the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) and the Zimbabwe National Traditional Dancers Association of Zimbabwe (ZNTDA).

Delta Corporation marketing director, Irimayi Muzorewa, said the stage is set for the grand crowning of this year’s winners.

“The wait is over, we are all set for the big day tomorrow in Masvingo.

“We wish all the participants the best and invite all our customers in Masvingo to be part of the event as they back their own group.

“As always, we are proud to associate Brand Chibuku with our customers and pledge to make the finals worthwhile,” said Muzorewa.

Mufakose-based group, Culture Warriors, are banking on their dinhe dance to land the prestigious title at the finals.

Other groups, who have made it to this year’s national finals, include Nyaungwe Dance Group (Mashonaland East), Bolamba (Matebeleland South), Pezhuba Pachena (Matebeleland North), Dzimbahwe Nengoma (Mashonaland Central), Mkango Malawi Nyau (Midlands), Dapurahunanzva (Manicaland), Budiriro Cultural Arts (Mashonaland West) and Khaya Arts (Bulawayo).

Popular dances set to be showcased include Chinyambera, Mbakumba, Mutshongoyo, Setapa, Nyau and Mhande, among others.

The Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival has maintained its status, over the years, as the ultimate showcase when it comes to traditional dances.
