The family of platinum-selling South African hip-hop artiste Cassper Nyovest (real name Refiloe Phoolo) was allegedly held up by an unknown number of suspects on Thursday evening.
This is was revealed on Twitter yesterday morning by the multi-award-winning rapper.
“Last night my family was held at gunpoint. I can’t imagine what my mom and lil sister went through. Thank God they are safe,” tweeted Nyovest.
The circumstances and exact details around the alleged incident, however, remain unclear. He went on to vent about the downsides of fame, saying his success had endangered the lives of his loved ones.
“These are the things that make me think of quitting,” a seemingly disillusioned Cassper tweeted. Please pray for my family,” the pony-tailed musician concluded.
Earlier this week, Nyovest was in the news after donating R100,000 in concert proceeds to the victims of recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa. He was recently in Zimbabwe, where he staged a show in Bulawayo, defying threats that he would be attacked should he come to the country.
The Doc Shebeleza hit-maker last week donated his earnings of the Bulawayo concert to the victims of the attacks, which claimed the lives of at least six people. — Citizen
