JOHN Nyumbu was the pick of the Zimbabwe A bowlers as he took five wickets to help restrict Afghanistan A to 217 runs, on the third day of their second four-day match in India.
The hard-working 30-year-old off-spinner finished with figures of five for 56 runs in 20.1 overs, as Zimbabwe A dismissed Afghanistan A in 66.1 overs, at the latter’s adopted home venue — the Greater Noida Sports Complex Ground outside the India capital New Delhi.
By the end of the day, Zimbabwe A had added to the 18 runs first innings lead and were 145 ahead with six wickets remaining.
Earlier, Afghanistan A had resumed on 112 for two, with Younas Ahmadzai (81*) and Ghami Zadran (10*) at the crease.
Then Nyumbu struck — bowling Ahmadzai for 101 runs which came off 150 balls and included 17 fours.
After Javed Ahmadi went for just one run, caught by Nyumbu off Prince Masvaure, Zadran was the next to fall — the victim of a run out after adding 24 runs to his overnight total.
He left the score at 160 runs for five wickets in 53.3 overs.
Nyumbu would go on to remove the other meaningful contributors: bowling Rahmat Shah for 17 runs and accounting for Sharafuddin Ashraf (22) whom he had caught by Brian Chari.
Masvaure chipped in with two wickets for 48 runs in 13 overs and Garwe and M’shangwe one wicket each.
Zimbabwe A will resume batting on the fourth and final day today with Brian Chari (36*) and Tarisai Musakanda (34*) at the crease.
