COCA Cola Zimbabwe yesterday rewarded 10 musicians for being voted the best on the 2015 Coca-Cola ZBCtv Top 50 videos and Radio Zimbabwe Top 50 shows.
Tshibilika musician Clement Magwaza, who had yet another trailblazing year, was among the winning team awarded at a presentation ceremony held at Mandel Training Centre in Harare yesterday.
Winky D, ExQ and Trevor Dongo won big in the Coca-Cola ZBCTV Top 50 Videos. Zimdancehall supremo, Winky D’s video “Chiramu” scooped the top local video. He was awarded a $1,200 prize money plus a hamper courtesy of sponsors Coca-Cola.
Hit song, “Alleluya” by rapper ExQ featuring Roki was voted second with an $800 prize money. In third position for best local video was Trevor Dongo who walked away with $500.
“Jerusarema” hit-maker Jah Prayzah got special mention as an outstanding artiste for having three songs on the Coca-Cola Radio Zimbabwe chart show, as well as a collaboration with Nox – “Gumbo Mudoro”.
Magwaza walked away with $100 and a hamper for being the best Tshibilika musician on Radio Zimbabwe last year.
On the Radio Zimbabwe Top 50, winners included gospel prodigy Blessing Shumba who pipped Sungura-ace Simon Mutambi and Reverend Toggie Chivaviro to land the top spot. Shumba won $1,200 for “Chimwe neChimwe” and a hamper. Mutambi with song “Mukadzi Akanaka” took second position.
Rev Chivaviro was voted third for chart topper “Ebenezer” which features a glut of top performers Baba Mechanic Manyeruke, Kudzie Nyakudya, Bethany and Pastor Charles Charamba.
Shumba was also voted Best Gospel Artiste while Mutambi was voted Best Sungura Artiste. Not to be outdone was Souljah Love who was voted as the Best Zim-Dancehall artiste. Nox was also voted Best Urban Grooves Artiste.
Presenting the prizes, Coca Cola Zimbabwe brand manager, Nomathemba Halima, said they were thrilled by public engagement in both competitions.
“Both the young and elderly follow the Radio Zimbabwe Top 50 and Coca-Cola ZBCtv Top 50 Videos religiously, something which is apparent in the viewership numbers.
“What’s most exciting is that many of the viewers and listeners are so engaged with the programmes that several of them have been able to predict the top five videos and songs in the correct order,” said Halima.
She said Zimbabwe had a lot of talent which Coca-Cola would continue supporting.
The viewing audience who took part in the Coca-Cola ZBCtv Top 50 competition was also awarded with prizes ranging from LED 50 inch television sets to home theatres, portable radios, smartphones and power banks.
Some of the 19 lucky listeners include Tafadzwa Nyamauya of Nyamapanda who won an LED 50 inch TV, Zvidzai Chikamhare of Masvingo who won a home theatre while Chipo Mhandu of Murehwa won a portable radio.
