MOST nightspots in Mutare are being turned into terror zones by this Mafia-like crew that is prowling the outlets, not for the purposes of patronising, but harassing revellers and causing disturbances. The mob-lynching squad has virtually become a law unto itself and is now a thorn in the backside of many in town and their actions are bordering on lawlessness. In this past week only, the gang has disrupted shows at two popular joints in the city and Yours Truly is now wondering where these marauding attacks will take the city’s nightlife. Only recently, an unfortunate city fella was at the receiving end of their barbarism after they took offence at his “preferential treatment” of marketing and promoting non-Mutare football players at the expense of local ones. And how handsomely the poor dude paid for that “crime” as he was left badly battered and bruised and needed hospital attention.
It is not hard, Dear Reader, to make out who Yours Truly is blabbering about. You see, the ringleader of this menace to society is none other than this brawny – and only God knows if has any brain, or a vast vacuum sits in his skull – chap popularly known around by the initials of his name, whose two-lettered abbreviation is found among the first 10 letters of the alphabet. If you still cannot get the picture of him, the scar-cheeked guy – a failure who once tried his hand and luck in transport – is a Alick Macheso fanatic and regularly frequents the bass guitarist’s shows while asking the Tafadzwa Nyarara singer to chant his name as he desperately seeks cheap popularity and even puts up clumsy dances with his hefty built. And they must have really borrowed from the Mafia style of operating. In a typical olden movies move, this group has a caricature character popularly known as a “Zhori” that forms part of an “advance team.” This good-for-nothing cartoon-like persona then goes around looking for trouble, and as vulnerable as he is as the group’s expendable, he calls for backup after inviting danger upon himself and the “masters” dash in for “revenge.”
For these uncouth brothers of ours, their “Zhori” is this vertically challenged chap who, Yours Truly thinks, only throws innocuous punches! Blabber is told by his informants that their strength lies in numbers as they always gang up to attack their victims as a mob.
On a concluding tip, here’s a little advice for the pro-Mafia monyas’ crew: Crime does not pay and the long arm of the law shall eventually catch up with you and, while jails bars are not golden gates, that incarceration may have a sobering and correctional effect on you.
College Buyers’ office turns hot potato
WHAT is this that we hear about the use of voodoo means of keeping jobs unfolding at one of the well known city’s Government-owned colleges.
While we all thought that learned people are aware that educational qualifications guarantee one of keeping their job, word reaching Yours Truly is that the recent audit and reshuffle of staff at this college has left others seeking alternative ways of keeping their jobs.
Dear Reader, I am talking about this college where students partake in numerous technical courses and even the college name reflects that idea.
Those in the know confided in Yours Truly that the situation came to a boil when one young man, who was suddenly assigned to work in the college buyers’ office, inexplicably collapsed and spent time in hospital where he eventually gained consciousness. So severe was the warning shot that the young man is now refusing to enter the office again and he is now operating from a different office.
Even those black road runners sold behind TM Sakubva are now said to be on high demand owing to a scramble by employees at this college who are stopping at nothing just to remain employed. Word reaching Yours Truly is also that the recent audit also unearthed gross misappropriation of funds at the college.
One wonders why they found it prudent to disband an exemplary football team, which needed a minimal budget to operate, when college employees are busy looting. Who knows, soon or later, Blabber might soon lay his hands on the controversial college bank statement, which we are reliably informed that a million dollars was deposited in that account for a long time and not even a cent was withdrawn for unknown reasons.
Can anyone tell the men and women running this once revered institution that, imi pane zvimwe!
