THE festive season has come and gone. Money has been spent and the January disease is biting hard in the pocket though I never get it because this happens every year; so are people failing to plan ahead and tackle the January disease? I do not know but any way, that is a story for another day. I know most people are busy with their long list of New Year’s resolutions which they hardly visit after the resolution hype has died down. This too, I always fail to understand as I have never bothered myself with the resolutions and all even when I owned a personal diary, I never wrote down any resolutions as I believe in getting myself a planner so I can plan it all out.
Think, everyone who has tried it has made a very important resolution and then broken it, so this year, stop the cycle of resolving to make changes and then not follow them through.
New Year’s resolutions are a very familiar concept to most of us, the tradition of these habit-changing goals originated in ancient times and it still lives on as people often press the reset button every beginning of a new year.
I know we were all caught up in the festive grip and most people did end the year in style but I do hope that you have left all the bad habits in 2014, I know that every new year is used as a catalyst for sweeping to character changes. It’s often sad that this is usually done by people who would have danced the night and morning into a new year and woke up stark naked in a stranger’s or ex’s room, sounds too familiar?
See why I say these resolutions to me are wasting of pen and paper or keyboard. I mean it’s sad to be holding on to a list of New Year’s resolutions which is as long as a shopping list.
Festive decorations by now are all packed up in a box some where and it is back to reality time. Not only are you coming back to the harsh realities of the world, but you see the whole of the year ahead stretching ahead of you.
Some people are already feeling hopeless as an unused year gym membership card pops up in your face, but to all those who prefer to be a side dish please make it a top priority to find your own man because I know the festive season was not so kind to you.
I’m not too big on making resolutions and all that but I know they can work for those that keep them realistic and do not just scribble down things in the name of following the trend. I find it pointless to wait all year round for you to know that you need to quit cheating, smoking, drinking and all that why should you wait for end of year to decide you need to stop?
Why should one wait for one particular day to make resolutions when there are 365 days one can make use of? I know stopping this and that and having sound resolutions sound good on the surface but typically a resolution is based on what you think you should be doing, rather than what you really want to be doing.
Too many a time resolutions are decided upon by looking at other people’s expectations or going through other people’s Facebook and WhatsApp status updates. If you really want to be serious and follow through your resolutions then you better forget about what other people think you should or should not be doing and look at what you really want and this way you will not fool yourself at all.
Most people always tend to think they need resolutions to work hard well good for them but I think people tend to set resolutions to see things happen and that is missing the point and the problem is that you are taking something that means nothing to you and trying to make it your own so you can sound cool.
Resolutions lack a foundation of meaning and personal relevance and they quickly run out of steam.
My only problem with making resolutions is that people often end up making the same old resolutions they have always made and unfortunately have never managed to stick to for a number of years. If you need a reason to make resolutions and the simplest explanation is that our highest aspirations for ourselves often conflict with our daily desires.
Resolutions are designed to give our aspirations the upper hand. In terms of modern social sciences, human beings engage in fast, automatic, short-term thinking, also in slower, more deliberative, long-term thinking.
When we make New Year’s resolutions, we are taking advantage of a “temporal landmark” that helps us to strengthen our best intentions. For those that want to have a list of resolutions and stick by them this is the time so go ahead and make those resolutions but please remember to stick by them, go ahead and be the best person you can be.
Do things exceedingly perfect and let’s continue to have more sex, love and money. Till next week let’s chat on [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]>.
