OLD Miltonians’ 24-21 victory over Old Georgians is a clear message to other teams that the giant has awoken and is there to stay in the league.
This was said by club coach Theo Weale who paid tribute to the players and the new technical department of Zivanai Dzinomurumbi and Victor Olonga who were roped in to sharpen the team.
‘‘Old Miltonians’ victory is a message out there to the other teams that we should be taken seriously. The guys performed well physically and mentally. Credit to them and not forgetting Zivanai and Victor whose input is now paying dividends. It is a morale boosting victory,’’ said Weale.
Old Miltonians scored their tries through Dean Nyoni, Roy Maganga and Tichaona Charumbira while flyhalf Allan Mntungwa weighed with three conversions and a penalty.
Weale is however wary of the derby against Matabeleland Warriors this Saturday.
‘‘A storm is coming our way in the form of Matabeleland Warriors this Saturday. Actually the game against Old Georgians was easy. It is the Matabeleland Warriors encounter which will be difficult and we need to brace ourselves for a physical game,’’ said Weale.
Before beating Old Georgians, Old Miltonians had only one victory against struggling side Zvishavane Bulls.
Now they have two wins as the former champions fight for survival in the league.
