Old Mutual Cricket Academy marks 10 years with major youth tournament

THE Old Mutual Cricket Academy will celebrate its 10th Anniversary of associating with the major financial institute.
Having started off as the Heath Streak Academy, the institution came into a partnership with Old Mutual 10 years ago and has since grown to being one of the most organised and flourishing junior development sports initiatives in the country.

“We are delighted to celebrate our 10th anniversary partnership with CABS and Old Mutual. We will have the largest youth sports tournament in the city on May 30,” said Joseph Rego.
He said the youngsters who are under 13 are the nation’s future stars who need love, support and encouragement all the way.
Tournament convener Ntombi Mangethe said all had gone well preparation wise with the academy looking forward to some exciting cricket.

She said some of the participating teams are from Bubi District, Gweru and Victoria Falls, a demonstration of the academy’s appeal in its efforts to develop the game of cricket in the region.
Mangethe said each school will provide two teams and that there has to be a minimum of four girls in each as part of ensuring that the sport’s growth is promoted from grassroots levels.

“Right now what we can say is that we are ready for the teams to come and looking forward to exciting finals on Saturday,” she said.
Taking part will be Indlovu Iyanyathela, Sigombe, Aisleby, Newton, Mhlangeni (Inyathi), Mahlathini, Baines, Charlestone, Magwegwe, Mazwi, Old Mutual, Eatc, Mgiqika, Chamabondo (Victoria Falls), Baobab (Victoria Falls), REPS, Umguza, Thomas Rudland, Mafakela, Ntshamate, Mtshingwe, Josiah Chinamano, Bumburwi (Gweru), SOS and King George.
