PAN-African financial services giant Old Mutual Limited has officially listed on the Victoria Falls Stock Exchange (VFEX), ending a six-year trading suspension on the local bourse.

The listing ceremony was held in Victoria Falls on Friday and was officiated by the Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion, Professor Mthuli Ncube.

Prof Ncube described the event as a significant milestone in the evolution of Zimbabwe’s capital markets.

The migration represents the resolution of a suspension imposed in 2020 during a period of exchange rate instability .

Prof Ncube commended the VFEX for establishing itself as a credible and competitive platform.

“This decision represents an important endorsement of the Exchange’s growing role within Zimbabwe’s and regional capital markets,” said Prof Ncube.

He also acknowledged Old Mutual’s longstanding contribution to the economy, citing its role in mobilising long-term savings and investing in productive sectors such as renewable energy, where the group has partnered with the Government and the UN to commission projects totalling nearly 80MW .

The move is expected to restore liquidity and trading access for the company’s thousands of Zimbabwean shareholders.

Old Mutual had been suspended from the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange alongside other dual-listed counters, which authorities argued were being used to derive an unofficial exchange rate .

Speaking on behalf of the Victoria Falls International Financial Centre (VFIFC), Chief Legal Officer Meluleki Sibanda framed the listing as a powerful signal of investor confidence.

“Old Mutual’s decision to list today therefore has significance beyond the company itself,” she said.

“It demonstrates confidence in Zimbabwe’s financial architecture and sends a powerful signal to regional and international investors that our markets are maturing, our institutions are strengthening and our ambition is matched by action” .

Ms Sibanda emphasised the VFIFC’s role in positioning Zimbabwe as a globally competitive gateway, offering a modern regulatory environment designed to attract international capital.

“Through the Centre, institutions can establish banks, investment funds, asset managers… Supported by internationally aligned legislation, streamlined licensing and a competitive fiscal framework, the Centre is designed to reduce barriers to investment,” she said .

Trading in Old Mutual shares on the VFEX is set to commence on Wednesday, 12 August 2026, with the opening price to be determined entirely by the market .
