One dies, four injured in Fern Valley accident

ONE person died, while four others were injured when a Toyota Corolla vehicle they were travelling in side swiped with a haulage truck near Fern Valley Turn-off yesterday night.

Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the accident.

David Maraire died upon admission at Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital.

“A white Freightliner truck which was being driven by Tawanda Muchocho side swiped with a Toyota Corolla vehicle which was being driven by Maraire. Maraire had four passengers in his vehicle.

“Upon approaching a curve near Fern Valley Turn-off, Maraire failed to negotiate a curve resulting in him losing control of the vehicle. His vehicle encroached into the lane of the oncoming haulage truck. The two vehicle side swiped. Maraire sustained head injuries and was rushed to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital where he died upon arrival,” he said.
