Refurbish Sakubva’s rented houses, council urged

CALLS have continued to be made for Mutare City Council to refurbish its rented houses in Sakubva in order to meet modern standards.

Most of the houses in the Muchena, Matida Hostels, OTS and Maonde sections of the suburb are crying out for renovations.

Manica Youth Assembly programmes officer, Mr Tinashe Muzama, said a makeover of the houses will help in improving the occupants’ standards of living.

“Council-rented accommodation in these areas has been in a dilapidated state for a very long time now. The sad thing is that the local authority continues billing and the affected residents are paying up, but there has been no improvement of the conditions under which they live in those houses,” said Mr Muzama.

He added that council needs to act with urgency in refurbishing the houses by allocating some of the funds in their budget towards that purpose.
