Online television Hona TV founded by two local filmmakers has been nominated at the United Kingdom African Music Awards to be held next month.
The television founded by Tinashe Chuma and website designer Tinashe Charunga is a popular online music and video entertainment platform and has been nominated for best online TV category.
Chuma said they were overwhelmed by the nomination and hope to bring the award home.
“We were overwhelmed by the nomination and the recognition the channel is getting across the globe although we had created if for our Zimbabwean artistes.
“We were nominated again last year but this time we hope to bring this award home,” he said.
Chuma said the channel is meant to put local artistes on the world map and is a platform for Zimbabweans living in Diaspora to be up to date with latest local productions.
“This television is meant to promote upcoming and established African music, videos on the international scene and the website is available to everyone across the globe via www.honatv.com.
“Zimbabweans living abroad embrace this channel more because they get to know who is on the hit at the moment on local showbiz amongst other things,” he said.
The television features the most up to date catalogue of premium African music content and video entertainment.
Music genres range from afro beats, rhumba, hip hop and video content ranges from music videos chart show, African soaps, comedy movies and cooking shows.
Chuma said a lot of local artistes are failing to utilise this platform to penetrate the international market.
“Most of our local artistes are not taking advantage of this platform and we have to follow them up to get their content but a few people like MMT managed to tour Australia, UK through this channel. Our local artistes are talented and they should be able to realise profit out of their work”
Recently they added another programme called Hona Gospel and will engage Invision Studios, Kenako Media and Mighty Movies on a number of productions houses for collaborations.Honatv was established in August 2012.
