The Harare City Council has resolved to extend Operation Restore Order to cover other areas outside the central business district.

This followed a meeting that was held yesterday by the city’s acting town clerk and all executives.

The acting head of policy, corporate strategy and grants, Mr Amos Muguti, said starting Monday next week, the city is expected to start visiting the industrial areas and major shopping centres.

“We want to complete this operation by the end of September. We hope that we will have achieved our goal,” he said

“Our strategic goal is to increase compliance in line with the President’s Call to Action, “No Compromise to Service Delivery,’ and come up with correct vital statistics in terms of our development agenda 2045.

“We now have a development masterplan which runs from 2025 to 2045. So for this masterplan to be successfully implemented, we want the vital statistics, compliance, so that we improve on service delivery.”

“From tomorrow, everyone should have business licences, building plans must be displayed, development permits must be in place and fire certification and compliance must be displayed, including the certificate of occupation.”

He said in terms of compliance, the city is happy.

“Compliance levels have increased, especially in areas visited so far. We can safely say we now have 100 percent because there is no shop which is going to open without meeting the minimum requirements that led to the closure of the business,” said Mr Muguti.

He said businesses are coming forward to regularise their operations. The only challenge now, after this operation, is that we are going to address the issue of vendors.

“Remember, we were given a green light by the Minister to remove every vendor in the CBD. This exercise will be implemented very soon.

“We are going to finalise our markets dotted around the city where we are going to put these vendors.”
