Opposition leader Mr Job Sikhala has landed in trouble in  South African after police  arrested him for illegal possession of explosives in Pretoria.

Sikhala [53] was arrested,  along with a 78 year old man who is yet to be identified, on Friday morning.

The two are still detained by police in Pretoria Central.

South African Police Service  [SAPS] spokesperson Brigadier Atlenda Mathe confirmed the arrest on Friday.

“The SAPS confirms that a 78 and a 53 year old man have been arrested for illegal possession of explosives,” said Brig Mathe.

“Police received a tip off that there were people travelling in a Ford Fiesta in Pretoria during the early hours of Friday morning.

“When police spotted the said vehicle, they stopped it and found 26 blasting cartridges and 15 capped fuse connectors”.

She said the pair will appear before the Pretoria Magistrate Court facing the said charges on Monday next week.

It could not be immediately verified what the politician and his compatriot  intended to do with the explosives.

Explosives  are used for illegal mining activities while criminals use them for cash-in transit robberies and ATM bombings in South Africa.
