The 2012 to 2013 season has seen the club’s juniors being crowned the Mashonaland Junior Champions for the third consecutive year.
The club’s chairperson, Catherine Gallagher, said this is the first time they are holding the awards as they usually hold an end-of-the-closed season swimming gala for their swimmers.
“We have had a fantastic season, we have been doing as a club participating in the juniors.
“We don’t have many senior swimmers but they are doing well and one of them, Brandon Chiang, is going to the Level Three gala.
“We have three Chiang brothers, Bryan and Bruce they have been doing well and there is also Nomvula Mjimba.
“We have new upcoming swimmers and I hope that next season, starting in August we will have a great season,” said Gallagher.
Gallagher attributed the club’s success to the coaches who have been working with the swimmers.
“We won the Mashonaland Junior championships for the third time running. Our coaches have been doing very well, I think we have brilliant coaches.
“This is the first time we are doing anything so public, we usually do an end-of-the-season gala but this year we want to do something different.
“We are going to look at the entire season because we have children who are really connected to swimming.
“What we want to do is to recognise all the effort the children have put in, every child will get something it might be small but they will definitely get something,” said Catherine Gallagher.
The Otters chairperson said although they are a big club in terms of numbers they do not have enough sponsorship.
Some of the awards to be given are the male and female overall swimmers, most promising swimmer, most improved, best newcomer, best chain leader, spirited swimmer, longest serving swimmer, coaches awards, technical official of the year and lifetime achievement awards.
