More than 7 000 goats have been distributed under the Presidential Goat Scheme since its launch in 2022.

The scheme aims to improve livestock genetics and enhance both crop and livestock productivity.

Statistics from the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development show that 64 goats were distributed in Chivi District, 25 in Masvingo Province, and 39 in Manicaland.

The Government is working on the modalities for the continuation of the scheme, with a comprehensive business plan for breeding and multiplying goats and other livestock at youth hubs that was produced in March of last year, now awaiting approval and implementation.

This initiative is part of the Government’s broader strategy to accelerate rural development and align with the goal of achieving upper middle-income status by 2030.

Under the full scheme, a total of 35 000 bucks and 597 000 does are set to be distributed across all villages, further enhancing the livelihoods of rural communities
