Ozil in no hurry

LONDON. — Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil says he is in “no hurry” to sign a new contract amid speculation that both he and Alexis Sanchez could be tempted away in the summer. Both players have two years remaining on their current deals with Arsenal keen to secure their long-term futures, despite another faltering English Premier League challenge and doubts surrounding Arsene Wenger’s tenure.

But Ozil has hinted that he may see out the rest of his career in north London with the club. Gunners boss Wenger is confident Ozil will commit to a new deal in the summer but the German World Cup winner has, though, been linked with a move away in recent weeks.

Ozil, who was not included in the PFA Team of the Year despite being two assists short of a league record, insists he can wait until the end of the season to begin negotiations. Speaking in an interview with German news agency Sport-Informations-Dienst, the Germany midfielder said: “There is no hurry.

“I have two years left on my contract. We’ll see how it goes at the end of the season.” However, the 27-year-old was quick to reiterate that he’s happy with life at the Emirates and suggested he could see out his playing days in the Premier League.

He said: “I’m not saying I must return to the Bundesliga. I don’t rule it out. Maybe I’ll finish my career in England.”

Ozil is currently on a £140 000-a-week contract at Arsenal and reports say the club could offer the star £160 000-a-week at the end of the campaign. — Mailonline.
