P.O Box TV storms comedy scene

Two Zimbabwean comedians, Bhutisi and Boss Kedha, have taken the local entertainment industry by storm with their jokes which tackle social issues.

The comical videos have gone viral through their Facebook page: P.O Box TV and Whatsapp.

Having introduced themselves late last year with the video Boys dzeTonaz where they mocked Zimbabweans living in South Africa, the duo is likely to ride on a wave of unprecedented popularity since their works have become household jokes.

On the video Bhutisi acts as the one staying in South Africa where he brags about that country’s good food and infrastructure, when in actual fact, he has no bus fare to return home.

Their second video Chaunoda chii which shot them to fame was a hit among many as it tackled political issues. The video starts with the two comedians asking what they prefer between vegetables and beef, Dynamos and Highlanders, Soul Jah Love and Seh Calaz and Mazoe and Cream Soda. When it comes to answering whether one likes Mazoe, Bhutisi panics asking the other which “Mazoe” he is referring to, hinting that he does not want to be entangled in the country’s politics. Boss Kedha responds saying he is genuinely referring to the “real” Mazoe.

Another humorous clip is Usandisiye where Bhutisi cries saying he cannot live without his friend Boss Kedha. They touch on some political ills where they depict some of the things politicians do, skinning the backs of the poor for their own benefit.

Their latest offering Anotenga Here is pregnant with meaning and has left people guessing on what the duo is up to. They converse saying in January, people do not stress on what to eat since there will be a lot of fruits and pumpkin leaves.

Efforts to get a comment from the man behind the Bhutisi character, Admire Kuzhangaira hit a snag after the latter said they were not at liberty to talk to the media.

“I’m sorry but according to our agreement as a group, we agreed that we’ve to give time to our work. But if you get hold of us around February, I’m sure we’ll give you all the details you want.

“For the meantime, we just want people to watch our clips and give us their feedback” Kuzhangaira said.

According to P.O Box’s Facebook page, the group is “dedicated to educate, entertain and provoke thought through skits, mockumentaries and tabloid news”.

It is still to be seen if the group will surpass the standard set by Uncle Ritchie of the Zviri Kumbofamba Sei fame.-Showbiz Reporter/Harare Bureau.
