A Zhombe man is battling for life at Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare after he was allegedly stoned by his two cousins for refusing to lend them money to buy a cow.
Blessing Sibanda is admitted to the hospital’s intensive care unit and he is in a coma.
He was allegedly attacked by his cousins, Shepherd Makohliso and Blessing Banda.
Banda from Chief Malisa’s area in Zhombe appeared before Kwekwe magistrate Taurai Manwere facing attempted murder charges and was remanded in custody to July 23.
Makohliso who is also from the same area is still at large. It is the state’s case that on July 5 the two accused arrived at Nxele Bottle Store in Silobela where the complainant was also drinking beer.
The two allegedly tried to borrow money from the complainant saying they wanted to buy a cow but the complainant refused.
A misunderstanding arose which resulted in Banda and Makohliso taking turns to hit the complainant with bricks until he lost consciousness, the court heard.
They left him for dead bleeding profusely from the nose and mouth lying in a pool of blood.
The complainant was only picked up the following morning by his brother, John.
Police launched a manhunt for the accused leading to Banda’s arrest.
